Choosing the Right Garage Lighting

Don’t leave your garage dark and dull. Choosing the right lighting for your Orlando garage ideas is one of the most important steps of the design process. Whether it’s for storage, parking, or a workshop, your garage needs the proper lighting. Your goal should be to have light that is equally distributed across the entire space. To light up your garage, consider these tips and types of lighting.

Identify the Type of Light
First, you’ll need to decide the areas in your garage that need specific lighting. For instance, the space on your wall where you hang tools; the workbench where you do your DIY projects; or the particular plants in your greenhouse garage that need focused lights. Take both the area and reason into consideration when selecting your bulbs.

Layered Illumination
There are three basic types of artificial lighting: task, accent, and ambient. Your garage should ideally have all three. The garage is a multi-functional area so layered illumination keeps yours prepared for whatever you use your garage for!

Bulb Wattage
The size of your garage contributes to your decision. It’s best to buy bulbs that have a high wattage if you have a larger space. You don’t want them to burn out fast!

Types of Interior Lighting
Brighten up the inside of your garage by choosing one of the following options:

  • Shop Lights: Shop lights are commonly used for garages and workshops that are similar to commercial spaces. They are a newer version of fluorescent lights and are inexpensive.
  • Strip Light Fixtures: Light up your garage with strip light fixtures, which can be easily installed and come in various sizes.
  • High Bay: High bay lights are best for large spaces with high ceilings. These types of lights are best when trying to reduce the number of lights you want.
  • Wraparound Lights: If you have lower ceilings in your garage, wraparound lights are a great option. They are installed at the same level as the surface of the ceiling, so they won’t hang as low as shop lights, and they’ll be out of the way of ladders and other objects. This product casts direct light from the sides and the bottom, so there is a wider spread of light.
  • LED: LED lights have been very popular in recent years. They have a longer lifespan and are more efficient than fluorescent and incandescent lamps. LED bulbs are the most energy-efficient ones available, as the heat they produce is absorbed by a heat sink. LED lighting is directional, meaning they emit light in a specific direction. Therefore, you will need to install large amounts.
  • Flush Mount: Flush mount lights are dome-like fixtures that are mounted to your ceiling. They are versatile and decorative. They can be used in a variety of spaces to provide ambient light.
