You may not think about it often, but your garage floor is a sizable, valuable investment. Here are tips from the Orlando garage floor experts at Garage Design Works to protect your floor, keep it in pristine condition, and Extend the Life of Your Garage Floor.
Sweep, Sweep, Sweep
Keeping your garage floor swept daily will prevent debris and small stones from scratching and becoming embedded in epoxy coatings.
Clean Spills Immediately
Our epoxy flooring doesn’t allow oils or other spills to seep into cracks and does not yellow or change colors. The top coat prevents water penetration, thus any mold and bacteria growth; however, don’t use these facts as an excuse to let spills just sit! Clean any kind of spill on the floor right away, especially caustic chemicals and fertilizers. Show your floor some love!
Minimize Wheel-to-Floor Contact
If you must use a vehicle, forklift, or lift jack in this space, make sure all wheels are in good condition and working order. Imperfections in steel wheels will leave marks on a coated floor.
Use the Right Cleaning Products
There are two rules of thumb for cleaning floor coatings. First, never use stiff-bristle brushes to scrub stains. They can scratch coatings. Our floors are easy to clean up and don’t require any harsh scrubbing.
Second, never use a cleaning solution that contains methylene chloride, which is used to remove floor coatings. Our floor maintenance is very minimal and requires no strenuous work, just soap and water! However, if you’re unsure about your chosen cleaning product, we would be happy to assist you.
Move with Care
To avoid scuffs, never drag anything heavy across the floor; use a hand truck instead or ask a friend to help you carry it. Apply pads on legs of chairs and furniture to minimize indentations.
